Privacy Policy
Effective date: November 1, 2026
Version: 1.0
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect and use information when you visit this website or become a WE member. "We" and "us" mean the company that operates this website, identified in Section 13.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us.
- When you become a WE member: email address, ZIP code, and year of birth.
- Optional account information: your name or display name, and a mobile number used to secure your account.
- Optional profile information: gender, race or ethnicity, household income range, education, occupation, household composition, housing status, political party registration, and voting frequency. Race or ethnicity and party registration are sensitive information: you provide them only by choosing to add them to your profile and confirming that choice, we use them only for research, analytics and member features, and we never use them for advertising.
- Content you submit: community posts, tips, photos, comments, and article contributions.
- Messages you send us.
Information from your use of the sites.
- Poll and survey responses, including responses submitted without an account.
- Pages viewed, articles read, time on page, and referring site.
- Device and browser type, operating system, language, and general location derived from IP address.
- Cookies and similar technologies (see Section 7).
Information from others.
- Advertising and analytics partners may provide inferred demographic or interest information.
- If you sign in through a third-party service such as Google, that service may share your name, email address and profile photo.
We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. See Section 11.
2. How we use information
- To operate the sites and deliver content relevant to your community.
- To create and maintain your WE membership and profile.
- To conduct community opinion research (see Section 3 and the Research Participation Agreement).
- To send newsletters, survey invitations, and membership updates you have asked for.
- To display advertising, including interest-based advertising.
- To measure audience and improve our publications.
- To detect fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
- To comply with law.
3. Community opinion research
WE membership exists to give communities a measurable voice. If you consent to research participation, we use member responses in aggregate, and our affiliated companies use them to build statistical models that help measure and forecast community opinion. This research informs our public reporting and the analytics provided to businesses and other organizations, local governments, and academic researchers. We never publish your name or contact information with your responses.
Research participation is voluntary, is governed by a separate Research Participation Agreement you accept at signup, and can be withdrawn at any time from your account settings. When you withdraw, we stop using your responses in new research, and within 30 days we delete your individual responses and any profile built specifically from your answers, including by our affiliated companies. Aggregate statistics already computed from many members' responses can't be traced back to you, so they stay in place and stop including you going forward. We don't attempt to identify individuals from aggregate data, and we require anyone who receives it to agree not to.
You can be a WE member without participating in research.
4. Member rewards
WE members can earn rewards for being active in the community, such as WE apparel and merchandise, and tickets to events in exchange for reviewing them. Rewards are based on community activity: voting, attending events, contributing content and membership tier. They never depend on joining community research.
Information involved: the membership information described in Section 1 (email address, ZIP code, year of birth and any optional profile information you choose to provide) and your activity on our sites.
Joining and leaving: you're eligible for rewards when you become a WE member. You can stop participating at any time by closing your membership in account settings or by emailing privacy@wearecommunitywise.com.
Value of your information: we estimate the value of the information involved at about $10 per member per year, based on our cost of providing the rewards.
5. When we share information
We share personal information in these circumstances:
- Service providers who host our sites, send our email, process payments, and provide analytics, under contracts limiting their use of the information.
- Advertising partners as described in Section 7.
- Research recipients, in aggregate or model form only, as described in Section 3 and the Research Participation Agreement.
- Affiliated companies, including our parent company, which build and operate our research and analytics tools (see Section 9), and for product development and administration.
- Legal reasons: to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, enforce our Terms of Use, or protect the rights and safety of our members, the public, or us.
- Business transfers: in connection with a merger, financing, or sale of assets. We will notify members before their information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
We do not sell your name, email address, or other contact information.
6. Content you post publicly
Community posts, comments, contributions, and author profiles are public. Your display name and anything you include in a post can be seen and copied by anyone. Do not post information you want kept private.
Poll votes are never displayed individually. We show only totals and distributions.
7. Cookies and advertising
We and our partners use cookies, pixels, and similar technologies to operate the sites, remember your preferences, measure audience, and deliver advertising.
Our advertising is managed by an advertising partner and may involve Google and other ad exchanges. These partners may collect information about your browsing across sites to show you interest-based ads.
You can control this through:
- Your browser's cookie settings.
- Google Ads Settings at adssettings.google.com.
- The Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out at optout.aboutads.info.
- Your device's advertising identifier settings.
You can also opt out of the sale or sharing of your information for advertising through the Your Privacy Choices link at the bottom of every page. We treat a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser as an opt-out, wherever you live. Visitors in the UK and European Union are asked for consent before non-essential cookies are used.
8. How long we keep information
- Account and profile information: while your membership is active. When you delete your account, we delete it within 30 days, except the records below.
- Records we keep after you delete your account: a record of the agreements and consents you accepted and of any privacy requests you made, for 24 months or longer if needed for a legal claim; records we must keep for tax, accounting or legal reasons, such as reward shipments, for as long as the law requires; and a minimal record that your email address shouldn't be contacted, so it isn't added back to our mailing lists.
- Poll and survey responses: individual responses are deleted within 30 days of research withdrawal or account deletion; aggregate results are kept indefinitely.
- Published contributions: indefinitely, unless you ask us to remove them.
- Analytics and log data: 24 months.
9. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Know what personal information we hold about you and how we use it.
- Get a copy of it.
- Correct it.
- Delete it.
- Opt out of targeted advertising, sale, or sharing.
- Opt out of profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
- Appeal a denial of any of these requests.
Sale and sharing for advertising. In the past 12 months, we have shared identifiers (such as cookie and device advertising IDs), internet activity (such as pages viewed) and inferences drawn from them with advertising partners for interest-based advertising, which some state laws treat as a sale or sharing. We don't sell or share sensitive information for advertising, and we don't knowingly sell or share information about anyone under 16. To opt out, use Your Privacy Choices at the bottom of any page.
Research data and our affiliated companies. To measure community opinion accurately and give communities a stronger voice, we may share research responses from members who opt in with our affiliated companies, which use them for research and analytics. Some state laws treat this as a "sale" of personal information. We never share your name or contact information this way, and sensitive information like party registration or race or ethnicity is shared only in aggregate. You can stop at any time by withdrawing from research in your account settings.
Nevada residents may also opt out of the sale of covered information through Your Privacy Choices or by emailing us.
Every WE member, regardless of location, can view and edit their profile, withdraw research consent, and delete their account from account settings.
To make a request, email privacy@wearecommunitywise.com or write to us at the address in Section 13. We will verify your identity before acting and respond within 45 days. An authorized agent may make a request for you with your written permission. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
Appeals. If we deny your request, you can appeal by emailing privacy@wearecommunitywise.com with "Appeal" in the subject line. We'll respond within 60 days, and if we deny the appeal, we'll tell you how to contact your state attorney general.
10. Security
We use technical and organizational measures to protect information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and logging. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of information you send us.
11. Children
Our sites are not directed to children. WE membership requires you to be at least 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, contact privacy@wearecommunitywise.com and we will delete it.
12. Changes
We will post changes here and update the version number. If changes materially affect how we use your information, we will notify members by email and, where required, ask for consent again.
13. Who we are and how to contact us
This website and the WE membership program are operated by Community Wise, LLC ("Community Wise").
